2026 Trip – Day 3

After a good night’s sleep I woke to the novel sensation of getting up at Kylkeinen without having six dogs to feed!

I decided to take a short walk and see if I could find the nearby hut belonging to my friend Robby. I stayed their one night many years ago so I vaguely remembered where it was.

After wandering around for a while I found my way to the edge of the lake, but clearly still wasn’t in the right place. Fortunately I still had the location in my GPS so I got there in the end. Obviously there was no-one there and I think Robby may have expanded since I was last there as there were two subsidiary huts in addition to the main one.

I also took the opportunity to admire Robby’s small lake and associated bathing platform.

Returning to Kylkeinen I tidied up and spent some time reading my book until Lena arrived in the van to take me back to the kennels.

After a hearty soup, I went for another walk along the various trails which I usually drive,

Crossing a rather swampy area I noticed some small red berries growing on the ground. I decided not to try them, but it is a pity that I didn’t because Timo later told me that they were cranberries and particularly delicious at this time of year.

Returning to the kennels, I arrived as the dogs were having their evening meal and I soon dug into mine which was whitebait caught that morning in a nearby lake by Timo’s friend .
