Spain 2025 – Day 3

Today we divided our forces. In the morning, Dad went to the Spanish army museum which was only about 100m from our flat whilst Mum and Sophia did some shopping.

The museum was again inexpensive and had very many well displayed exhibits. Unfortunately, half of the top floor was closed for unexplained reasons. This area covered the 19th and 20th Centuries.

The building housing the museum was also interesting and had an open roof area with excellent views over the city.

After lunch we re-grouped and headed for the Cristo de la Luz mosque. This had seen later use as a Christian church so contained a mixture of religious styles. We had an audio-guide which charmingly addressed us in an American accent as “Dear Visitors”. The mosque was small but worth a visit and we particularly liked its delightful garden.

Our next stop was the Iglesia de San Román; a museum devoted to the Visigoths who apparently used to run Toledo. This one was free, but unfortunately the signs were only in Spanish. There were a lot of impressive carvings and we had a go at deciphering some of the signs, but with limited success.

The building housing the museum was also interesting being an old church with many interesting frescos.

Finally – Phew! – we went to the Iglesia de Santo Tomé whose main claim to fame is El Greco’s masterpiece The Burial of the Count of Orgaz.
